Caritas Naa Ayele Aryee
My name is Caritas Naa Ayele Aryee, and I am 25 years old and live in Accra, Ghana. I graduated from the Government Secretarial School. My name, “Caritas,” means to give, to love, and to show kindness to the less fortunate, and I like to think that these are actions and traits that describe me.
When I was little, anytime I was on a bus I would stare at kids hawking and doing all kinds of jobs just to survive. I was always sad and would tell my mum that one day I would own a home where all the street kids and orphans could come and stay and have a good life.
This July, I was grateful to God for how far He has brought my mum, and to mark her birthday I decided to donate to an orphanage in Accra Jamestown in her name. The orphanage, Jaynii Streetwise Foundation, is located behind the lighthouse in Jamestown, a suburb of Accra.
I was shocked and amazed at how needy children are in the capital of Ghana. With my little influence on social networks I made a lot of noise about donating to these kids, and to my surprise people contributed immensely and it was beautiful. I invited my friends to join me there. We played with the kids and chatted with them. I advised them to believe in God and also pray fervently since Our Maker is the only order of our fate. We spent quality time with them and it was amazing.
Now this time I am organizing two donations on one day. I have my friends on board now, so some of my friends will travel to Upper West Region to donate to some kids and orphans in a community there, and the rest of us will also donate to another orphanage back in Accra. This is also to mark my 25thbirthday, my “silver jubilee”. We are not an organization—it’s just me and my friends trying to reach out because we have come to realize how our society needs us.
iStandAbove congratulates Caritas for her exceptional work in donating to the children of the Jaynii Streetwise Foundation. We hope that others follow her example and #StandAbove.
